The Merano High Altitude Trail, which was realized in 1985, leads around the Nature Park Texel Group at almost always the same altitude - and since then has been considered one of the most beautiful circular hiking trails in South Tyrol. Our route runs above 5 valleys: The Etschtal, Schnalstal, Pfossental, Pfelderertal and Passeiertal. The route mostly uses historical paths that have been walked by mountain farmers for centuries. In the northern part of the trail, that is south of the Ötztal Alps, the route crosses an alpine pass, the Eisjöchl. Through some additional side trips we get to know some special features of the nature park. On the way we stay in simple inns in shared rooms or in rustic huts and enjoy the great cuisine of South Tyrol.
